Wrinkle Defense!
Posted May 15, 2008 11:36 PM in the future procedures
Daily application of a sunscreen is essential not only to avoid skin cancer, but also to prevent unwanted signs of aging such as wrinkles, and sun spots from occurring, according to Dr. Nassif .
So keep your skin protected by using a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 or higher for daily use and SPF 30 or higher when you are out in the sun for longer periods. Always reapply your sunscreen every hour and a half even if it is waterproof.
Another tip, check your labels to make sure it has one of these ingredients listed as active to ensure adequate protection from both UVB and UVA rays: avobenzone (also known as Parsol 1789 or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane), titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Mexoryl SX, or Helioplex.

Allergan, which is the maker of Botox, has some new anti-aging products called Prevage and Spa Vivite. However, products with a retinoic acid or Retin-A are going to help with lines and wrinkles. SPF 15 sunscreen is also essential for all skin types.

What is your skin’s history? Do you have problematic skin? What is the climate like where the event will take place?
Makeup is only as good as the skin it covers. Take time in the months leading up to the event to get your skin in shape. You should avoid having a facial, microdermabrasion , or peel within ten days to two weeks of the event, especially if you have not had such procedures performed in the past. The last thing you want to deal with are unwanted reactions.
The sooner you consult with your skin specialist, the quicker your skin can be picture perfect for your special day! COntact Aubrie Cook at Spalding Drive Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology for more information. Or call (310) 275-2467.

Botox to the neck area
Posted April 02, 2008 11:58 PM in the future procedures
According to Dr. Nassif , Botox is great in helping to soften the platysmal banding or the muscle lines that run vertically up and down the neck. These muscles start to hang starting around the age of 40 and above. Sometimes, when you have horizontal creases in the neck Botox can be used to soften these lines.

How long does swelling last after a filler is injected?
Posted April 02, 2008 11:34 PM in the future procedures
When you discuss injectable fillers with a patient, one of the questions asked is how long the swelling lasts? Most patients look good after an hour. Some patients will actually get fullness, especially in the lip region, immediately following injections of Restylane or Juvederm.

How ratios help determine beautiful lips
Posted April 02, 2008 10:22 PM in the future procedures
Pouty lips or thin lips, which do people prefer? While this might vary, the ratio of the lips determines what looks the best. A ratio of about 1:2 between the size of the upper lip and the lower lip is what helps balance the face. Angelina Jolie has a great example of perfectly balanced, pouty lips, with her lower being about twice the size of her upper lip.

Dividing Beauty into equal parts
Posted April 01, 2008 11:27 PM in the future procedures
What we consider a beautiful symmetrical face can be divided vertically into five, equal parts and facial height can be divided equally into three horizontal parts starting from the hairline to the eye brows, the eyebrows to the bottom of the nose, then the bottom of the nose to the chin. The symmetry of the areas of the brow, eyes, nose, lips and chin are then analyzed, according to Dr. Nassif.

What is Radiesse?
Posted March 03, 2008 6:53 PM in the future procedures
"Radiesse is an injectable made from calcium hydroxyapatite. Radiesse can be injected into facial wrinkles and nasiolabial folds. However, if it is not performed properly, Radiesse can have a firm and bumpy result. This is an injectable that you have to be pretty experienced with injecting to prevent these complications," according to Dr. Nassif.

Platelet gel and healing after rhinoplasty
Posted February 29, 2008 10:36 PM in the future procedures
Platelet gel is another alternative to increase healing and decrease bruising. During surgery, platelet gel is made from the patient’s own blood. It is then applied to bone grafts and soft tissue grafts as a stabilizer throughout the rhinoplasty procedure. The gel is also used to accelerate the healing of the soft tissue. There are some additional medications or procedures that can be performed to increase healing. But what also helps someone healing is a dissection technique that is careful of the tissues of the nose.

What is Bio-Alcamid and what is it used for?
Posted February 19, 2008 7:03 PM in the future procedures
There are all type of fillers that are not used in America that are approved in Europe and possibly Canada . These primitive fillers can cause future problems such as granulomas or abnormalities and can be very difficult to remove.
Dr. Nassif only recommends FDA approved fillers that are available in the United States . Even with these types of fillers there can be complications. So, you have to be very careful.
According to Dr. Nassif, "I’m not familiar with the Bio-Alcamid filler, but from what I read this is a permanent filler that can be used to correct small or large deficits of soft tissue. This filler can be used in the lips, face or in the body. You may be able to get this filler removed depending on where it’s located."

Liposuction and Tummy Tucks
Posted January 09, 2008 11:55 PM in the future procedures
Dr. Amron often has patient asking him if liposuction should be done before or after a tummy tuck.
Here is some advice he typically gives his patients: "I think it is better to do a tummy tuck and liposuction as separate procedures, either doing a tummy tuck first and then doing liposuction or possibly doing the liposuction, then the tummy tuck."
"Liposuction is a wonderful procedure to do after a tummy tuck because it can be use to remove any residual fat."
"Also, sometimes after a tummy tuck there is a scar on the lower abdomen. I find that when I am doing liposuction it is important to be aggressive just above that scar and to do it in a way to get that skin to retract and pull back so that it lays more flat in relation to the scar."

Skin care tips for Southern California
Posted October 05, 2007 4:44 PM in the future procedures
Southern California residents live with pollutants in the air, as well as and dry, hot tempatures. According to Dr. Nassif, we want to make sure the skin is nourished and replenished with good topical skin care ointments and good skin cleansing.
We also want to make sure, because of the sun, that everybody wears at least an SPF 15 sun block daily, year round.
