Posted May 20, 2008 10:31 PM in Liposuction
Dr. David Amron will be discussing the Top Five Liposuction Myths and Mistakes in a live chat hosted by Make Me Heal from 6 to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 21 - http://www.makemeheal.com/chats/schedule.php
To learn more about the following, log in and join the chat:
Top Five Liposuction Myths
1. Liposuction is Dangerous 2. Fat comes Back 3. Liposuction is for overweight people, you should diet and exercise instead 4. Fat goes to Other Areas 5. Liposuction causes Indentations and Rippling
Top Five Liposuction Mistakes
1. Liposuction causes dimples and irregularities - This is caused by suctioning to close to the skin or too aggressively.
2. The patient becomes disproportionate - Often too much fat is taken from one or two areas and the doctor does not pay attention to balance when liposuctioning the body.
3. Loose skin - The skin on different parts of the body also behaves differently and needs to be approached on an individual basis. If the skin tone is not goot in one are, the experience of your doctor will be crucial.
4. Fat returns – In some cases this is due to not enough fat removed being removed from the correct areas, it is about making sure the body is in proportion.
5. Incisions improperly positioned or are too large - The key to successful liposuction is to place the incisions in areas that will be less noticeable.

Wrinkle Defense!
Posted May 15, 2008 11:36 PM in the future procedures
Daily application of a sunscreen is essential not only to avoid skin cancer, but also to prevent unwanted signs of aging such as wrinkles, and sun spots from occurring, according to Dr. Nassif .
So keep your skin protected by using a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 or higher for daily use and SPF 30 or higher when you are out in the sun for longer periods. Always reapply your sunscreen every hour and a half even if it is waterproof.
Another tip, check your labels to make sure it has one of these ingredients listed as active to ensure adequate protection from both UVB and UVA rays: avobenzone (also known as Parsol 1789 or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane), titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Mexoryl SX, or Helioplex.

Medical tests before rhinoplasty
Posted May 15, 2008 11:23 PM in Rhinoplasty
Before undergoing a surgical procedure like rhinoplasty , certain medical tests are often needed, according to Dr. Nassif . These tests are run to identify any issues that may prevent you from having surgery:
Physical: A general physical done by your primary care physician may be required.
Electrocardiogram: An electrocardiogram, or an EKG or ECG, is done to measure the electrical signals that control the rhythm of your heart. An EKG tests for any irregularities in your heartbeat as well as evidence of past heart attacks. Additional testing may be required if irregularities are detected during this test.
Complete Blood Count: A CBC is a blood count test that measures thirteen blood levels in the body. This blood test can reveal blood deficiencies or disorders that could affect the safety of your procedure and your recovery. Inadequate platelet levels can lead to increased bruising and bleeding. Low hemoglobin levels can slow the healing process. While low levels of white blood cells can lead to increased infection after surgery.

Improving a deviated septum with Rhinoplasty
Posted May 14, 2008 11:55 PM in Rhinoplasty
During rhinoplasty , surgeons use various techniques to improve the both the function and the look of nose. Functional improvements center on breathing issues like a deviated septum. The septum separates the two nostrils, when the septum is deviated one of the nostrils is blocked, which can lead to breathing issues. Normal side effects after Rhinoplasty
Posted May 12, 2008 11:26 PM in Rhinoplasty
The following are a list of normal side effects following Rhinoplasty surgery according to Dr. Nassif :
Swelling – After surgery, swelling of the nose typically peeks 36 to 48 hours after your rhinoplasty. Swelling is usually the most pronounced in the mornings. And, while most swelling will reduce after about two weeks, it is common to have swelling for a year after surgery.
Bruising – Bruising is common around the eyes and on the cheeks, especially if the nasal bones have been fractured during surgery. Bruising peeks about two days after surgery and usually resolves in about two weeks.

Healing from Rhinoplasty: Three Months to One Year
Posted May 12, 2008 10:28 PM in Rhinoplasty
At three months your nose is about 85 percent healed. The nasal bones and tip are strong, however there is still nasal swelling at the tip. At one year you are about 95 – 96 percent healed. Your nose will never be 100 percent healed because it keeps changing every year. With rhinoplasty surgery you have to give your nose time to heal and be very patient.

Healing from Rhinoplasty: the fourth week
Posted May 08, 2008 11:58 PM in Rhinoplasty
After the initial two weeks of healing from rhinoplasty , the nose starts to look a little better, but you are very swollen. After four weeks, your nose will most likely start to look better and you probably have about 50 to 60 percent of the swelling resolved.
During the initial few weeks after your rhinoplasty surgery, you’ll really want to curb your normal exercise routine and not do anything strenuous to avoid any additional swelling. You can start doing some light exercise at about four weeks. At six weeks, you should be able to exercise regularly, but if you notice that your nose is becoming very swollen, you’ll want to back off.

Your bruising will start to slowly go away. In addition, we use hyperbaric oxygen, arnica and platelet gel to help you heal faster.

Factors to consider when scheduling your rhinoplasty surgery
Posted May 07, 2008 10:30 PM in Rhinoplasty
When you schedule your rhinoplasty surgery, there are a few factors to consider.
Are you having your surgery done for a special reason – a wedding, graduation or reunion? If you are planning to have your procedure done for a special event, be sure to schedule your surgery several months in advance. This is due to the fact that it can take anywhere from six months to a year for the swelling to go down. Everyone’s healing is different.
If you need to take time off of work or school, consider scheduling surgery at the end of the week, so you have an extra weekend to recover. For more information on rhinoplasty, contact Spalding Drive Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology .

Questions to ask during your Rhinoplasty consult
Posted May 07, 2008 9:55 PM in Rhinoplasty
There are a lot of questions to ask leading up to rhinoplasty surgery. It’s best to make a list of questions to go over with your doctor at your consult or pre-operative appointment. Here are some to include:
Which medications, vitamins, herbs and supplements should you avoid before surgery?
What are the medications should you start taking prior to and after your surgery?
Are there medical tests you need to schedule before your procedure?
Are there items and medications should you stock up on before surgery?
Will you be able to wear eyeglasses after surgery?
